Bobcat Fire Attorneys
Fighting for Victims of Wildfires in California
The Bobcat Fire was one of several fires to strike California during the 2020 wildfire season. With over 115,000 acres burned, it is one of the largest fires ever recorded in Los Angeles County.
Like numerous other wildfires that have plagued California in recent years, investigators have found evidence that equipment owned by Southern California Edison may have caused the Bobcat Fire.
If you or a family member sustained personal injury, wrongful death, or damage to your property or commercial business, you may be eligible to file a claim for damages from SCE. You may be entitled to a financial recovery even if you have already received payments from your insurance carrier.

SCE-OWNED EQUIPMENT MAY HAVE STARTED THE BOBCAT FIRE
On October 12, 2020, Southern California Edison sent a letter notifying the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that the Bobcat Fire may have started when tree branches came into contact with an overhead conductor owned by SCE.
The letter follows the utility’s September 15th filing with the CPUC that there had been an “incident” on an SCE grid around the same area and time the Bobcat fire began.
Though SCE and the U.S. Forest Service are continuing investigations to determine whether vegetation contributed to the blaze, SoCal Edison may still be liable for damages suffered by victims.
That is because utilities can be held liable for wildfire damages caused or contributed to by their equipment under the state’s inverse-condemnation law, which entitles property owners to just compensation when their property is damaged by a public use.
At Robins Cloud LLP, our attorneys leverage decades of experience litigating wildfire cases across California to help clients seek compensation through various means, including:
- Negligence and inverse-condemnation lawsuits
- Personal injury or wrongful death claims
- Insurance claims and civil suits over bad faith denials or delays
Who May Be Eligible for Compensation
If your property, livelihood, or health was affected by the Bobcat Fire, you may have the right to pursue compensation. Potential claimants include:
- Homeowners who lost their homes or suffered structural damage
- Renters whose residences were destroyed or became uninhabitable
- Business owners who experienced property loss or business interruption
- Individuals who suffered personal injury, smoke inhalation, or respiratory illness due to the fire
- Families of loved ones who were injured or killed as a result of the fire
Compensation can help cover property damage, repair and rebuilding costs, personal belongings, evacuation expenses, medical treatment, emotional distress, and loss of income.
Holding Negligent Parties Accountable
Utility companies have a history of being linked to California’s catastrophic wildfires. In many cases, faulty equipment, poor maintenance, or inadequate vegetation management have been identified as contributing factors. If evidence shows that a company’s negligence caused or worsened the Bobcat Fire, those responsible should be held accountable.
At Robins Cloud LLP, we have extensive experience handling wildfire cases against major utility providers. We understand how to investigate the causes of large-scale fires, gather critical evidence, and fight for the rights of those who have been wronged. Our legal team is prepared to pursue claims through negotiation or litigation to ensure that victims receive the compensation they deserve.
The Legal Process for Bobcat Fire Claims
Filing a claim for wildfire-related losses can be complex. It involves gathering detailed documentation, proving liability, and calculating the full extent of damages. The process may include:
- Conducting a thorough investigation into the origin and cause of the fire
- Reviewing utility company records and maintenance logs
- Working with fire experts, engineers, and environmental specialists to determine fault
- Collecting evidence of property loss and personal damages
- Filing individual or mass tort claims against the responsible parties
Every case is unique, and the legal process will depend on the circumstances of your loss. At Robins Cloud LLP, we handle the details so you can focus on rebuilding your life. Our goal is to provide compassionate representation while aggressively pursuing justice on your behalf.
What You Can Do If You Were Affected
If you suffered losses in the Bobcat Fire, it is important to act quickly. There are deadlines for filing claims, and evidence can become harder to gather as time passes. Taking the following steps can help protect your rights:
- Document all property damage and losses with photos and receipts
- Keep copies of insurance claims, repair estimates, and communications with your insurer
- Record any evacuation costs or temporary housing expenses
- Seek medical attention for any health issues related to smoke or fire exposure
- Contact a wildfire attorney to discuss your legal options
By working with an experienced law firm like Robins Cloud LLP, you can ensure that your claim is handled properly and that your rights are protected from the start.
